Emma + Michael

October 19

Happy Thursday! Hope everyone is having a great week. Every year, I do my best to take one weekend off in October to enjoy with my family and friends. I fight the urge to book anything that weekend so I can be available to do, well…anything. That’s this weekend for me! I’m looking forward to soaking up the fall weather, going to a baby shower and doing all kinds of happy fall things with my little nephews. I’m proud to share I’ve withheld myself to only eating one full bag of candy corn on my own up until this point of the fall season. I’m pretty proud of that!

I’ve been so excited to share a few images from Emma and Michael’s stunning wedding.

As you can probably see, these two had amazing weather. I think perfect weather must just follow them wherever they go. We had amazing weather for their engagement photos too! Glowing light and all. I was so happy to spend some time with them at their engagement session to get a feel for how they are together before their wedding day. They are pretty perfect for each other and make such a great team. Did I mention they are sweethearts – both of them – to the core. It was such a joy to spend their special day with them and I’m so honored they asked me to be their wedding photographer. I’ll never forget them sneaking up behind me at Hannah and Ryan’s wedding in July and saying with a huge smile across their faces, “We’re next!”

Well guys – everything was perfect. From the weather to your awesome friends and family to every detail perfectly executed ..I couldn’t have asked for a better day with you two. Thank you so much for the honor of being your wedding photographer. I look forward to keeping in touch and seeing your future together unfold! 🙂

Okay, here we go. I will never NOT love a bride that wears simple and elegant (+blush!) wedding shoes. Have I mentioned here that I love photographing details? Oh yes, probably at least 50 times.

LOOOOK at this gorgeous couple!!!

Okay really, see what I mean by perfect glowing light? This is my dream time of day to photograph anyone or anything. Soft light. Backlit. With a halo of light around my subjects. Yes please!

I pushed myself on this wedding and shot one roll of black and white. You can NEVER go wrong with black and white, am I right? My photography student days are surfacing as I say that. So much time in the dark room in college. If you had told me then that I’d be photographing film at weddings one day, I would have thought you were nuts. I’m so glad it’s the case! My beloved Indy – I love you so! Emma and Mike – you two are a dream to photograph.

HOLY smokes those flowers! Can you imagine sitting down to start building that bouquet? My mind is blown. Such awesome talent!

Someday, Mike’s kids will look at this photos and think, “Man, Dad was a babe!” Does anyone else look at photos of their dad back in the day and do the same? Mine rocked a serious mustache and it was incredible.

Beautiful, you two.

More black and white. So timeless. Couldn’t love this image any more!

Does a blush bridesmaid dress ever go out of style? No it does not! Look at these 6 gorgeous ladies!

Many thanks to my friend Molly Connor for all of your wonderful help at Mike and Emma’s wedding!! I appreciate you so much!

Someone fun onlooking the groomsmen and cheering on the groom. It’s not uncommon for this to happen while taking bridal party photos.

Did I mention these two saw each other before their ceremony? Opened up plenty of time to get tons of photos beforehand. The best!

Married!!!!

These two had some really special toasts!

With her father. Man I love this so much!!!

Have a great night, friends! Thank you as always for your support!

Kelly & Josh

October 11

Happy Wednesday! Hope you are well and enjoying the fall wherever you are. Can’t say that Indy has much to show for fall just yet! These warmer temps are nuts! Never have I experience so much back sweat shooting a wedding in October 🙂 but guys it’s all been worth it! I’m so excited to share Kelly and Josh’s beautiful wedding with you all today.

First of all, that first photo? Holy smokes! Kelly and I got together the week of their wedding. I actually said to her that day, “Can we for real be friends after your wedding?” I’m so lucky to stay in touch with so many of my couples (stay tuned for past couples in this post!) and I’m hoping the same rings true for these two. They are the real deal and so tuned in to what really matters. Kelly had this carefree spirit about her wedding. To be honest, we actually talked more about her excitement for their honeymoon (they are in Portugal as I type this!) and I just knew going in to their wedding day that they’d be no fuss and a whole bunch of fun. Sign me up!

Remember their engagement photos? Part of why I encourage having engagement photos taken and include them in my coverage is to get to know the couple before the wedding day. Also, it’s nice for the couple to see how I work going into the wedding day.  I’m so glad I had some time with these two and their beloved pet, Ollie. Kelly and Josh are the perfect validation of my brand doing EXACTLY what I want it to do which is to attract really cool, really laid back, really great people (with amazing families to boot) to my business and my life. These two tied the knot at the Columbia Club downtown on a sunny September day and everything was perfect. I know I’ve mentioned this before, but it is a special treat for the photographer when everything for a wedding is in the same location. No logistics for hauling the bride and groom or their bridal party around. Kelly gave me full reign for these photos and I just took them out to the circle and went to town. I’m crazy over these images – a small glimpse into their day. I always tell inquiring couples that I average delivering around 75 images an hour. So, it’s my hope that these two can pour over their gallery with wine in hand overlooking some insanely picturesque view in Portugal this evening. Seriously, Portugal. That is a first for my couples! So cool!

Kelly and Josh – Thank you a million times over for the honor of being your wedding photographer. If it’s not already quite obvious, I think you guys are pretty neat. All the best, always. Have a glass for me in Portugal! Hope you’re having a blast…

Here we go now…are you ready?

Let’s just dive right in with a few of my favorites. How classic and stunning does Kelly look? And how adorable is her mom?

Josh proposed with help from a puzzle. Yes, this couple keeps getting better. Kelly loves doing puzzles and when coming to the finish line and falling short one piece, Josh pulled out this piece below and proposed. One of my favorite rings shots probably ever for this little detail.

Okayyy handsome groomsmen!!

Classic. Timeless. My friend, Crystal, did a remarkable job on Kelly’s makeup!

These two. Such wonderful people. Thank you, October, for all of the sunshine!

YESSSS! Yes. I’m a fan 🙂

Have you been to the Columbia Club? It’s stunning in there!!!

Special thanks to my second shooter, Katie Destry, for all of your amazing help and for especially for capturing such amazing candids during this ceremony. Holy smokes! This light was perfectly illuminating the front row.

Sneaky 🙂

I posted a photo of the groomsmen, Ian, on the right to my Instagram stories a few days ago when editing this wedding. To all of my FRIENDS fans, doesn’t he look like Ross Gellar? By the way, Ross is my favorite friend BY FAR.

A few more beautiful moments from Katie shooting from above…

Marriedddddd!!!!

Such a handsome couple. Also, film I love you sooooo much.

OH hi, downtown Indy! You’re looking fineeee!

Always down for a couple sitting down for a few of their portraits for a different look…

Such a fun bridal party!

Okay now on to the reception….my oh my they had a fun one!

The bottom right? A CARICATURIST! Again, these two with the ideal couple theme. This guy was a HIT. He had a line the entire night! Such a fun treat for your guests! And Kelly even told me he was cheaper than having a photo booth at their reception for the same amount of time. Stay tuned for a few more photos from this artist.

Did I mention I was so happily surprised to see not one but TWO of my past couples as guests at this wedding? Remember the stunning Grace and Matt!? SO good to see them!! They’ve since added a little girl since their wedding to their family and have another little girl on the way. So good to see you two! How awesome is their caricature? I wanted one so badly but didn’t get in line in time!

Such a fun night of dancing for these guests. Here’s another connection. That couple on the bottom right? I ALSO photographed their daughter Dana’s wedding!! I’m telling you, I kept turning my head to see more people I’ve photographed at this wedding and it made me SO happy! Also I should add, just to hit home how small Indy really is, my mom is best friends with the Dana’s dad’s sister-in-law. Okay, that was a stretch and might take a second to put together in your brain. 🙂

And another CSP couple!! Katie and Chris!! I realize their wedding was only last September, but guys – I still have people comment on Katie’s dress and flowers (done by the insanely talented David with the Empty Vase – the florist I tell ALL of my brides about!) … take a trip down memory lane to see their photos.

Heartfelt toasts from siblings are the best…

MOREEE dancing…

Can we please take note of Josh’s face before the hora?

This place went wild!

This caricaturist was seriously the coolest. I was watching him as he was drawing this, and he accidentally blotted the pen he was using on the eye of the man he was drawing in the photo. What did he do? He drew an eyepatch over the spot and THIS was their reaction upon seeing their drawing for the first time. Seriously so much fun!

Just adore the couple!

You guys – there is SO much more to come. I’m at the time of the year where I wish there was like 12 of me to get all of these photos out. Stay tuned because there’s so much goodness to come!!!

CSP Albums

September 18

Happy Monday! Hope you had a special weekend with those you care about. I shot a double header wedding weekend – one of them with a photographer friend and the other one as lead photographer. Woke up this morning and felt a little wiped 🙂 but in the best possible way. September and October are always a crazy haze of busy each year!

I wanted to share some images of beautiful new albums I’ve designed. I’ve loved serving clients in this way and look forward to making many more as Christmas gifts in the coming months!

This album I designed from the Held family’s fall session from 2016. Karin requested black linen 10X10 with special embossing on the front.

These make beautiful coffee table goodies. Perfect for sharing with friends when they visit your home.

My favorite spread from their album <3

Stunning 12X12 distressed leather in Ardesia for the beautiful Grant and Valerie.

Love this spread of Valerie’s gorgeous details…

I pay careful attention to designing an album with an editorial feel that will stand the test of time.

I’ve loved serving in this way. It’s been a wonderful way to add value to my business and to my clients.

If you are a past, current or future client and you have any questions about albums or album design, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Brandon + Cara

September 14

Happy Thursday, friends! My favorite day of the week!

It’s a good one over here because I’m lucky to share images from Cara and Brandon’s beautiful wedding! Oh man, their weather was seriously insane. You know how you think August in Indy = lots of sweat and heat. Man, these two lucked out! It was gorgeous outside with plenty of glowy light and and a gentle cool breeze. Add in one happy and stunning newly married couple and this girl is in heaven!!

This was my first time photographing at the Willows in Broad Ripple and it did not disappoint. Indy folk – you know as you drive north on Westfield and see the Willows on the right as the road starts to curve? I thought all of the festivities were going to be there! Fun fact: I went to (a) prom there. I went to like 4 proms or something? I digress. NO! All of the festivities were just south of that spot in a hidden gem I NEVER knew was there. A beautiful outdoor ceremony site – and I mean incredible – tucked away in the shade with privacy. Few things make me happier shooting weddings than when I get to shoot a ceremony outdoors in full shade. SIGN ME UP! We shot their family formals there too. It was the perfect backdrop!

Cara and I went to high school together. She was a year younger than me, but I’ve always known her sweet personality and when she reached out after she was engaged, I was so happy to hear from her. Basically, she’s been a dream bride through and through. So laid back and always remembering the “why” to their wedding day. I loved meeting Brandon at their engagement session last fall and knew then not only were they perfect for each other but their wedding was going to be a blast.

Cara and Brandon – Hope your honeymoon was incredible and that you two get to pour out a glass of wine together and relive the best day! I’m so honored you asked me to photograph your special day. Thank you for everything and I look forward to keeping in touch!

Okay, let’s get started, ok?

The details, guys. They are among my favorite to photograph on a wedding day and I was mildly obsessed with Cara’s invitation!

I mean, look at that all together! Why yes, I’d very much love to receive that happy mail in my mailbox.

Cara’s dress was a dream and just perfect for her.

Such a cool group of guys! That’s Brandon’s nephew in front on the right. 🙂

Brandon got ready at his parent’s home on the northeast side of Indy. From my understanding, they are moving soon and wanted to have some photos in this space before they do. So happy we could make that happen for them!

Cara and her girls got ready at the Hotel Broad Ripple. Funny story, they actually have added a full building on there (unbeknownst to me) and I marched on up to the room I shot in last time I photographed a bride there, and I walked in…and everyone looked at me like, “HI! Who are you!?” Lol, there were two bridal parties getting ready there that day. I marched in with confidence to find the bride, had a very brief moment of panic when I didn’t see Cara (or ANY faces I knew!) and then my nerves were put to rest when one of the girls told me they were next door. Indy photographers, now you know!

I ADORE Cara’s mom! Who has known me since I was a teeny tot. I love the way this business had built all sorts of beautiful connections.

The handsome Mr. & Mrs. Scearce <3

Fun fact again! That’s Katie there on the left – she also went to high school with me and was Cara’s matron of honor.

Heyyy bridal party! Looking good! I had climbed up on this ledge and got mulch all over my pants for this shot. I’ll do whatever it takes, I’ll tell ya!

One of my favorites.

LOOK at this little nugget! And that light!

There’s that nugget again. I always love the time when I have to kneel way down to capture the little people carrying rings/flower petals down the aisle. 🙂

I love taking these type of photographs.

Look at Brandon’s face! Just the best!

This actually gave me chills when I first saw it while running through images from their wedding day. Sometimes we shoot so quickly, we don’t have time to pour over what we got. I was so happy to see this moment captured so perfectly! It’s exactly how I remember seeing it unfold.

See what I mean about this space though?

Cara & Brandon put their wedding bands in a small bag and passed the bag around through each row of guests for prayers and well wishes. I thought this was such a neat idea. I’ve never seen it done before. Also, see that woman in black and white stripes on the right? Her name is Terri and her son, Ben, was in my class in grade school. These webs, you guys! They are intricate and they are awesome! I never know who I’m going to run into at a wedding!

🙂

Married!

Lol, I feel you girl.

All the heart eyes!!!

The details at their reception were the perfect touch to their day. I especially loved their cake. I won’t lie, it’s usually the first detail shot I take at a reception. Who doesn’t love a good cake?

This was so much fun! Cara’s father played the accordion for their first dance. Cara grew up with memories of her father playing. I even asked her girlfriends if they remember him playing at sleepovers to which they all replied, “OH YESSSS!” I love touches like this that are unique to a couple’s story.

This had me crying, too.

Heartfelt toasts…

And an awesome time had by all.

Specials thanks to my talented and super sweet friend, Katie Destry, for all of your amazing help at this wedding! 🙂

Indianapolis Mavris Wedding: Hannah & Ryan

August 8

Happy Tuesday, friends! Hope you all had a great weekend with your people and that your fresh week is off to an awesome start! I couldn’t be more excited to share a handful of my favorite images from Hannah and Ryan’s images from their spectacular wedding day. Strap in, there are a lot.

Okay one second though, let’s go back to the start. I knew almost instantly when I met Hannah that we were a good fit. You know when your humor with someone aligns instantly and you think to yourself, “Wait, you get me.” This is how I felt about Hannah. We met last summer through the recommendation of an angel saint santa jesus girl, her name is Sara (hiii Sara!), and last summer Sara just started passing my name out like free candy to all of her friends who were engaged. My recommendation to all business owners is to find yourself a Sara! Hold on one more second. Does everyone remember Tigon? Yes, that beautiful family I photograph every year that looks like they stepped fresh out of a Jcrew magazine? Sara used to nanny for the Dausmans and thus…this is how she discovered me. I tell you, it almost never gets old hearing how a couple initially discovers me. It’s so fun to see the connections made and how small this world really is. Anyway, these girls in Sara’s sorority are all getting hitched, and I’m so lucky to have photographed two including Hannah now (looking at you too, Val!) and then a third in September (waving at ya, Emma!)…it’s been a blast getting to know these awesome women!

My engagement session with Hannah and Ryan last fall was a breeze in part thanks to their special guest, Penny. You will want to stick around for more of her in this post.

These two ended a string of 4 weddings I shot in less than 4 weeks and I couldn’t have asked for a better day or couple. They tied the knot at the Mavris downtown on a perfect summer day last month. Tons of sunshine and guests, a super meaningful ceremony, bright and colorful flowers (hello pops of yellow!) with the most insane art direction and execution from David Reilich with David Reilich Occasions. Seriously, wait until you see their reception details. Thank you, David, for your wizardry!

As for Hannah and Ryan – you guys are the real deal and I’m so happy for you! Thank you for the honor of being your wedding photographer and for letting me in on your intimate day. I can’t remember the last time I blubbered more during a speech (looking at you, Sophie!) and I must say, I loved every second of sharing this with your family and friends. You guys are so loved!  Wishing you guys all the best and I can’t wait to see how your marriage unfolds and what good you two will do!

Ooookay…let’s get started, shall we? Film, I love you and that golden light! Look at this couple that beams!

Thank you, bridal party, for being a blast! 🙂

If you had told me back in the 8th grade that I’d grow up to be a professional photographer, I wouldn’t have believed you. Though, I would say, that’s when I started to have some confidence in myself. Not trying to brag but I was the president of my 8th grade class sooo 🙂 lol let’s be honest, that doesn’t mean much.

GLOWING! Look at that mega watt smile! Obsessed!

Okay, can we take a moment to admire this chuppah. Wow!!!

Cute as a button!

Love this city so much.

Love this image of Hannah with her mom. If I were her, I’d frame this.

Reading his letter from his future wife…

How about a precious look with the father of the bride? I SO enjoyed getting to know Hannah and Ryan’s family.

Bless.

Ryan was adamant about waiting to see his bride for the first time at the end of the aisle 🙂

When all eyes are on the bride…

This was my first time photographing a ceremony indoors at the Mavris and I loved it!

Jewish ceremonies are so beautiful.

Okay, let’s talk about the real star of the show. Penny. I don’t think I’ve ever loved a ceremony photo more.

These two are pretty smitten with this dog and having spent a little time with her at their engagement session too, I can totally see why. I love how she’s stopping to sniff the petals 🙂 special thanks to my talented second shooter, Katie Destry, for all of your help at this wedding! My photo is above, and the pair below are below are hers. If you look closely, you can see me crouching down at the front of the aisle in the photo on the left.

MARRIED!!!

So handsome. Way to be beautiful, guys.

Beautiful ladies…

Remember how I’ve said I’m working harder at getting great shots of the groom too? Glad I made that a goal of mine!

Owow!!! Look at this couple though!!! Your children will be blessed. Just sayin!

LOOK at these details. INSANE!

It was all a dream…

Quick shout out to all of these beautiful sorority sisters! Remember Val (second to right)? And hey that’s the awesome Sara I told you about on the far right!

These two got up to say a word of thanks and before they said anything, Ryan said something along the lines of “Well let me get my wife up here with me!” This was her response.

Sweetest speeches. Sophie made everyone cry. Thanks, Sophie. Lol, no really…you were AWESOME!

Ok…this image. I couldn’t love it more. Clearly that is mother and son there. 🙂

Sorry Penny, I think this wins out actually. Come on now with this shot of the Hora! The best!!!

Such fun!

Special thanks to Endless Summer band for keeping the party going!

Thanks for following along. Much to come so stay tuned. I’m one busy bee these days. xo

The Barn at Kennedy Farm: Lee + Amanda

July 28

Happy Friday, everyone! Hope you all have had a great week wrapping up the month of July. Yes, wrapping up. What is happening. Kids are going back to school next week? How is this possible? I haven’t even made it to the pool once this summer. Man, time flies!

Do you guys remember these two? Okay, let me bring you up to speed with them real quick. I’ve only known Lee for a few short years thanks to Ben and the old G2 Pacers zone. The G2 zone, for those who don’t know, was a section at Bankers Life where crazy awesome Pacers fans could try out to get free season tickets so long as they stood there in that section and cheered for the blue and gold! The G2 zone has since evolved into Turners block to rep Myles Turner since George Hill AND now Paul George have left the Pacers. That’s for another post and time. This section is where I first met Lee because he’s a member too! If you are a Pacers fan, you are pretty cool in my book to start. Then I eventually met Amanda and it’s clear to see why these two are so great together.

Last fall, I met over froyo with these guys to chat about their wedding. I’m not going to lie to any of you. I look for any and every opportunity to eat froyo. I’m laughing now as I type this. “Geez, do you get froyo with every couple?” The answer is yes, I try with all my might. Lee and Amanda were warm and inviting from the start and I knew I wanted to be there to photograph their wedding at the Barn at Kennedy Farm. As an artist, any time another artist hires you, you definitely feel the heat to bring your A game. Lee is a talented designer as you’ll see showcased in a few of these images and it meant a lot to me they chose me to be their photographer.

Amanda & Lee – I won’t tell you how many times I cried editing these. It’s not something I’m proud of lol, but I want you guys to know you are without a doubt, two of the kindest and warmest hearts I’ve ever had the honor of photographing. You will forever go down in my books as that couple who marched down the aisle to the theme song from the Office! Major cool/will you be my best friend points. I have such a love/hate relationship with blogging. I love it because I get to share about your day but hate it because it’s impossible to share everything with all of the sentiments. I may just be at my computer until I’m old and gray waiting for that day 🙂 I hope you have some fun and feel the love looking back at a few moments from your incredible day. All the best and all the Office love always!

This was my first time photographing at the barn at Kennedy Farm. Such a beautiful venue and the best part? It’s off the beaten path so, in a way, you feel like you’ve escaped.

As I mentioned before, Lee is a talented designer and designed that emblem that stuck to the floor for their guests to see as they entered the reception. How awesome?

I won’t lie to anybody. I’m proud of these groomsmen photos. I don’t often have as much time to focus on these, but I’m making it a goal this year to give the grooms as much love as I do the brides, and I’m so happy I took the time to shoot some film of Lee and his guys.

Hello beautiful brides! Can you go wrong with a blush dress? No, you cannot.

I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of shooting details. They are my favorite. I loved this dress so much on Amanda. The perfect one for her.

A little different for me – pushing myself this year – and I love it so, so much.

Fun fact! See those twinkle lights through the window and how they are blurred out? That’s called “bokeh”. When everything in the back blurs out and makes the image all creamy.

Maybe one of my favorite getting ready photos to date. Brides, find a room with a huge window that offers tons of natural light. You will thank me later! 🙂

Hi, can I have ANY ONE of these heads of hair? So pretty!

Guys, I mean…there’s this, I guess. Really?! That light bouncing off of Amanda’s hair. Lee’s arm wrapped around her. This image is a perfect reminder to me that it doesn’t matter where the heck you are taking photos (it certainly can help!), your subject and your light are what matters. I could make these two look good in a dark and dingy alley, I swear.

Wait, a few more of the groomsmen in front of the barn? OKAY! I was drawn to that plank when scouting before shooting and knew I wanted to shoot there. Little corky and I love it!

First look. Peeking out to see Lee…

I’m a sucker for a groom that cries. These two read their letters to each other before turning around to see each other.

THE BEST!!!! Top right is my fave.

Also, let’s take a minute to honor these socks.

Ceremony time. This light was tricky.  Sometimes it’s more challenging than others to get those great shots. Because these guys were fully backlit with no clouds in sight, I had light flooding into my lens making it much harder to focus. No problem, I just cupped my hand and held it over the top of my lens to help soften that light coming to my lens. Problem solved! I love this image of Lee walking Amanda’s mom down the aisle.

Okay, I love this image more.

Wait! Nope, this one is my favorite. Look at that thumbs up! When I was editing these, I was listening to this super emotional “Deep Focus” playlist on Spotify (I’m laughing thinking about this now), and I definitely cried reliving this sequence of photos. I hadn’t noticed she gave him the thumbs up. The best.

I don’t know that much but I do know that look says it all 🙂

Cue the Office theme song. Now that I’m thinking of it, you guys should dress up as Jim and Pam for Halloween.

“Where’s my wide lens” lol…Amanda mentioned they wanted to try for a full wedding guest shot directly after the ceremony on the steps. Want to know something raw and candid from a photographer? We cringe a little bit when we hear this request simply because it’s such a hard thing to pull off. But with these steps and this awesome group, I’d say this turned out AWESOME! The pastor’s face in this photo kills me! <3

Mr. and Mrs. Eisenbarth.

I thought I’d pull a few family formals to showcase how I love to shoot them. I will ALWAYS choose to take them outside in beautiful natural light. They always look timeless and beautiful.

Love is awesome.

Thanks for being such a fun group, guys!

I love these guys together.

Recognize this from a movie!? 🙂

Yes, I am that photographer that shares a detail photos on its own of donuts.

LOVE these last two!!! And I didn’t catch on fire!

Congrats you two. So happy for you!

Have a great weekend, friends. I’m heading out to get mac and cheese to celebrate the weekend. Looking forward to spending time with my people. Xo

Spanish Summer Wedding: Paloma + Jack

July 19

Hey everyone! Happy Wednesday!

Oh man, what an exciting post. If you’ve kept up with me at all in the past couple of months, you probably know I shot a wedding in Spain. This was a bucket list item for me to shoot an international wedding. What I wasn’t expecting was just how rewarding it would all be for a handful of different reasons that I’ll explain as we go. First let me catch you up to speed.

A few years ago I shot a wedding in Chicago with my sweet friend Amanda. It was Catherine and Tommy’s wedding. To this day, their wedding was one of my most favorite to photograph. I’m not sure I’ve ever felt more welcomed on a wedding day than I did at Catherine and Tommy’s wedding. They just…went above and beyond. Their families were so warm and inviting. I felt like one of their own. At the time that Catherine booked me, I had written in my “About” section on my website that one of my favorite movies is You’ve Got Mail. This still holds true. Don’t you just love NYC in the fall? Makes me want to buy school supplies. She told me early on You’ve Got Mail was one of her favorites too. So a connection was made. Isn’t it crazy that putting that totally random piece of information out there in the cyber world started this thread in my life that has literally woven the coolest tapestry? I have a feeling it’s not done weaving either.

Paloma and Jack were both members of Catherine and Tommy’s wedding party. They met as a result of Catherine and Tommy’s wedding. They even WALKED DOWN THE AISLE together. I mean, as a wedding photographer, I’m not sure it gets any cooler than that? When Paloma messaged me that they were engaged and was wondering if I’d ever be interested in shooting their wedding in Madrid, I couldn’t say yes fast enough. Paloma (one of 12 – yes, 12 – hang tight for more on this) is from Madrid and wanted to marry her best friend there. So to Spain we go! I studied in Florence junior year of college and I never made it to Spain but always wanted to. This was a no brainer for me.

I had a few blips on my radar getting over to Spain. For one my flights were postponed a day due to weather and in addition my luggage didn’t make it. Well, it actually DID make it to Spain with two days left in my trip. At which point I figured hey, it’s worth it to interrupt plans to go back to my airbnb to wait for the airline representative to deliver it, but they never showed after 2 hours of standing outside of my airbnb. With the help of Paloma’s very kind brother (did I mention the customer service number they gave me was all in Spanish with no apparent button, despite my best efforts lol, to press for English) I had the luggage sent home. At that point I had already bought enough clothes and underwear to get by and was emotionally prepared for not having my things.  What’s hilarious is the luggage actually beat me home. This all honestly made me so much stronger. I traveled to Spain on my own with all of my gear, shot a wedding on my own, and I will say I’m proud of this gallery. I know I’ll always look back with a full heart on these moments.

Paloma and Jack – What a chance of a lifetime to come out to Spain and photograph your wedding! I am eternally grateful to you and your incredible families for all all that you did for me during my time in Spain. I’m so thankful I was able to play a small part in your big day. I am always sending my best to you and look forward to grabbing a drink next time I’m in Chicago!

Paloma and Jack married at San Jeronimo el Real. This is where royalty gets married in Spain. I had several family members tell me over in Spain that Paloma just knows how to get things done. She made some connections and somehow, this church that is near impossible from what I understand to use as your ceremony venue, well…she booked it. I wish you could have seen my face walking up to it for the first time. Isn’t it stunning?

Oh Madrid…you are a magical place for sure.

Okay, I know I mentioned Paloma is one of  12 earlier in this post, but did I mention Jack is one of 7? Including Jack and Paloma, there are NINETEEN siblings between these families. I laugh when I think I thought I came from a big family. How incredibly handsome did Jack look on his wedding day?

Paloma’s father passed away year ago and her brother stepped in his place to walk her down the aisle.

Couldn’t have loved Jack’s mother and family more. This trip was Jack’s parents’ first trip out of the country. I spoke with them quite a bit at the rehearsal dinner and they said they could get used to it. 🙂

Guys, Paloma just IS joy and light. Everywhere she goes.

Okayyyy.. now let’s talk about this church. Jaw drops.

During their ceremony, I found myself imagine the construction of this church and all of the ornate details. I mean, can you imagine? That shrine to Mary and that podium. Who made those?! What was their story? How long did it take them? It just blows my mind.

Not only do I love Paloma’s face of adoration in this photos, I love all of her family in the background. Which you can’t even see in entirety! I’m pretty sure Paloma has 27 nieces and nephews (forgive me guys if that number isn’t spot on!) but holy huge family!!! So freaking awesome!

That painting too!! I mean…WHO MADE THAT? Did I mention this church was built in the 1500’s. I can’t even wrap my brain around it. This job is so amazing.

Absolutely stunning.

NEVER have I loved taking reader photos more. I mean, come on.

MARRIEDDD!

This was one of those moments on film I couldn’t wait to see come back in my scans. It did not disappoint.  Did I mention Paloma’s little sister made her flowers? Love when the families get involved! Also, I’m forgetting the man’s name shooting with a film camera on the left, but he was so nice and we connected at their reception over photography and shooting film. We talked about our love of Ektar film.

Speechless.

Hey guys, 10 years ago I sat in college classes not not knowing what the heck to do with my life. I knew I was interested in photography and took some risks and they all lead me to this moment. I’m not the best photographer in the world but I’m proud of my story and for taking some huge risks. I keep showing up for my business and while it’s been a roller coaster of emotions it almost never lets me down. I am beyond grateful for the lessons and opportunities.

Hey Tommy!!! That’s Tommy on the left looking fly shooting some photos. Also, that tailcoat. SO SHARP.

One of my favorite parts of the day is to grab formal photos outside in beautiful light. That’s Paloma’s mother on the left and Jack’s on the right. Aren’t they beautiful? This was a special request of Paloma who was standing by me as I took this photo….

…and seconds later, Paloma – onlooking this merging of families, threw her arms around Jack and looked at him like this. I quickly turned a took this photo and I think it may be my favorite moment from their entire day. When it all sunk in their families just doubled in size and love.

Okay, have you ever met a family with 6 boys? This is what it looks like! And they have a super awesome sister, Liz, too! I just, look at all of those siblings. I’m even missing one.

Okay wait. Now this photo. When I found out Paloma was one of 12, my immediate thought was, “Oh, surely there are some multiples in there!” Nope, 12 separate pregnancies. And with that, I bow down to Paloma’s mother. Suddenly I feel like the ultimate underachiever. Lol. Look at all of these beautiful humans. Man, what a LEGACY. This is all of them in birth order.

Okay, I lied. This may be my favorite photo of the day. Jack, Paloma, Catherine + Tommy. I literally wouldn’t have had this opportunity without these four beautiful people. You have no idea how happy I am to know them and call them friends. Thank you! ALL of you!

I had to just throw this in here too because, I mean, how lucky is Paloma to join this crew?! There’s Liz in the blue too 🙂 I know it’s an in between moment, but those are oftentimes my favorite ones.

This is Catherine’s sister, Anne. Leading up to the wedding, I spent some time with Catherine’s whole family who all flew out to help celebrate this amazing celebration. We all went to the oldest restaurant in the world called Botin where Ernest Hemingway would frequent. How awesome!? I ate white asparagus and drank red wine and again felt like I was part of this family of friends. I just had to share a sweet sentiment regarding their family because I’m so lucky I got to spend some time with them.

Remember that time I shot a wedding in Europe?

It was pretty incredible.

One of my favorite captures from my time in Spain.

Now let’s party! I am not kidding any of you, this was the craziest and best reception I’ve ever photographed. Paloma warned me there would be dancing until 4 am. Thanks to the time change, I still wasn’t fully adjusted and had no problems staying until the dancing ended. It was a blast!

The middle on the left is Paloma’s younger sister. The one who made the flowers. 🙂

Another shoutout to this awesome duo who can seriously throw down on the dance floor. Catherine and Tommy – you guys are the best!

I’m not sure the relation is to the man in the bottom left with the yellow shirt and blue hat – but I assure you, he was one of my favorite to photograph on the dance floor that night!

We’ll end on this because look at the mega watt smile. What a dream.

SUCH A FULL HEART. Have a good night, friends.

Valerie & Grant

July 6

Hey friends! Happy Thursday!

It’s been a whirlwind to say the least over here. I’ve shot 3 incredible weddings in 2 weeks, one of which was in Spain, and it’s been SUCH a blast and it feels like I’m just now catching my breath from it all. With another amazing wedding in store this Saturday, this stretch has been one of the busiest I can ever remember in my business. I can’t wait to share more in the coming weeks!!

Right now I’d love to share just a few of my favorite moments from Valerie and Grant’s amazing day. Where to start with these two?  I knew after taking their engagement photos that this couple would be a great time. I’ll never forget making a quick stop at Grant’s place in downtown Chicago for a wardrobe change during photos. I walked in, saw Chicago’s skyline through his windows AND almost simultaneously noticed his porch, and KNEW we had to take a few out there. After all, it’s not often I have a balcony up in the sky to shoot with. I told them to pour a glass of wine and sit your butts down and enjoy each other while you have a drink. They probably thought I was crazy! 🙂 But I still have people talk about those images! If you need a refresher, you can find those images here.

These two married tied the knot at St. John’s in downtown Indianapolis with a serious party (and some of the best speeches I’ve heard to date!) at the beautiful Indianapolis Museum of Art after. I loved spending the day with their sweet friends and family. It was a perfect day with plenty of sunshine. It may have been a little sweaty at parts – hey, it’s Indy in June – but these guys were such troopers. Man I had such a blast shooting portraits of these two! Can you say models? Oh also, Grant is going to Harvard business school in the fall. So, they’re crazy smart too.

Valerie and Grant – I’ve so loved getting to know you guys during this special time in your lives. Thank you so much for the honor of being your wedding photographer. I wish you two all the best and can’t wait to see how your life unfolds in MA! xo

Possibly my favorite image from the wedding! Val, you are STUNNING!

Love this shot my sweet second shooter, Gail, captured of Grant getting ready.

I’ve so enjoyed getting to know this couple. They have such bright future ahead!

This is one of those images that I think their kids will especially love one day. Such a beauty.

Such a fun group! What an amazing day this was!

What a long way I have come since day 1 of business. I am so grateful.

There’s just something about a moody black and white! <3

Look at that bling! 🙂

Timeless beauty.

Their first look was so sweet! A few weeks before their wedding, Val emails me telling me of this idea she has to do their first look on this rooftop. Her father owns the building so we’d have access and privacy for a first look and I was sold. I really prefer a first look with privacy. It just lends itself well to the couple really having an uninterrupted, special moment to themselves. When you think about it, a bride and groom don’t get much time to themselves on a wedding day. Val and Grant’s first look was one for the books!

It was also a bit windy up there 🙂 love this image!

Handsome groomsmen. Thank you to my second shooter, Gail, for capturing this! It was such a treat to have Gail team up with me at this wedding.

Val and Grant had their ceremony at St. John’s downtown on Capitol street. I’m always so blown away by the ornate details all throughout this church!

I was mildly obsessed with this space for their cocktail hour. How INCREDIBLE is this backdrop!?

Val’s dad gave a touching welcoming speech…

I always love to photograph the parents during speeches. They always have a glow about them. 🙂

The best man’s speech had everyone laughing!

I LOVE this image of Grant’s mom!

Married!!!

Now let’s party…

What an incredible day!!

Stay tuned for so much more, friends. Until then, have a great night!

Alex + Ellie

June 1

Happy Thursday!!

Feels a little bit like Christmas over here because the NBA finals start tonight. Yes, I’m that girl that still watches as many of the playoffs games as I can even when my team loses in the first round. It’s okay, Pacers. I’ll always love you!

More than the game, I’m so excited to share these images with you. How beautiful is this couple? Ellie and I go back to our childhood days. I remember swimming with her at the Rivi – the local swimming pool – and to think, fast forward twenty years, and I get to photograph her as bride? Well, that’s just awesome!

From the second they arrived looking THIS sharp, I knew my job would be easy. Honestly if this is any indication of how amazing they will look for their wedding, I know I’m in for a treat. These guys are perfect for each other and I’m so happy to see a childhood friend glow this much. Enjoy a few of my favorites from our time together at their engagement session 🙂

I’m a lucky girl to photograph such beautiful people! And let’s talk about Ellie’s hair. On point!

Film just gets it. THOSE HEELS!

Does this groom win most incredible teeth!? Lol, if that were a thing, he’d be up there. Holy beautiful smile!

Can’t wait for September, you two!

Kelly + Josh

May 8

These two beautiful people are getting married in September – my most favorite, glowiest time of year in Indy – and I couldn’t be more excited! You can tell A LOT about a couple from how they navigate having to reschedule a shoot. I think we ended up rescheduling this shoot maybe 3 times? Even the day we had this shoot, it was insanely windy and I thought about rescheduling once more, but than I thought heck we are going to have some fun with this. Kelly was so kind, so easy going about it all. We patiently waited for nice(r) weather and it was so worth it.

Taking these photos was the first time I actually met Josh and Kelly in person and in literal seconds it made so much sense that we came together. They’re just awesome people. So much fun. So light hearted.

See, I told these two they were my first session getting back in the game. That is to say, I definitely have a quieter season in the winter months and their session was one of my first back. I’m officially ready to rock this 2017 season (hellooo Spain next month!?!) and I can think of no better couple to kick it off with than these two.

Okay. How stunning is Kelly in this red dress?! See wind ain’t all that bad, am I right?!

OLLIE!!!! The love Kelly has for her dog…I respect very much. 🙂

If I’m taking your photo soon and you’re wondering if you’re allowed to bring your pet – I encourage it. 🙂

Hey, this is one of those moments where I’m like dang, this job though. So fortunate. All the praise hands.

I shot a little film with these two and so glad I did. Man I can’t wait to see them all dolled up as husand and wife.

Ollie wants some action too 🙂

Happy Monday, friends!

Here’s to a great week.
